Interview FR
(A quelles occasions ?)
Interview ENG
- Can you tell us how you heard about the role of Normal and the process to get the part?
I had previously done a series with Chic Eglee called “ Murder One ,” which ran for two seasons on ABC. He is one of five people I have counted on in my career for repeated work. He will actively go to the mat for you; which is rare in an industry run by fear. Anyway, he called me when I was in Utah shooting a mini series and said put yourself down on tape for this thing I’m creating with James Cameron called “Dark Angel". I did and ended up testing with two other actors and won the role .
- Did you watch Dark Angel? If so, what are your thoughts on the show?
I generally don’t watch myself, unless I need a new cut for my demo reel. Then I will look into “ possibilities.” but what’s done is done. It weirdly takes the pressure off you-at least it does me. I never suck, cuz i never see myself.
- Apart from Normal, who is your favorite character in Dark Angel and why?
Hmmm. I don’t know…? I love "eyes only,” "Original Cindy" and of course “Max", largely because they were completely different and very much themselves.
- What is your favorite episode or moment? (Any scene in particular?)
"Boo", so fucking crazy. And "Out" cuz I got to kiss someone.
- What are the differences and common points between you and your character Normal?
I always use as much of myself when acting as I can; It all comes from me -which sounds frightening with the character Normal ,as many considered him an asshole . I didn’t . I thought he was ridiculously over qualified running a bike messenger service, given his intellect and was. as a result, very very frustrated. I based his "inner motor" on the actor Tommy Lee Jones. "Just shut up, get on with it and I ain’t smiling... ever."
- What was the atmosphere on the Dark Angel set?
My best friend was and still is Richard Gunn. Smartest man I ever met. Mensa smart . I’m also in touch my Michael Weatherly- actually working with him this week on his show" Bull." I’ve run into Jesen- supernatural about five years ago when I was in Vancouver for something. Very sweet guy...that’s it.
- Any filming anecdotes to share?
Richard and I were not in every single day so we had a lot of time to explore. We went deep sea fishing, rifle range shooting ( hated it) and saw every single movie that came out those two years we were in Vancouver shooting. Being directed by Cameron was perhaps the highlight . Like all great auteurs he has an astonishing love for actors. He’s both specific, kind and liberating to work with. He did everything on set :Props, running the camera , tweaking lights. He was wildly exciting to work with.
- What role would Normal have played in Season 3? Would he have been on the side of the transgenics, or would he have remained true to himself?
Normal was and always will be true to himself. I could see him getting married to a transgendered person. The episode I fell in love with my girl was the first kiss on national TV between a transgender person and male. That was the great thing about the show, it would constantly surprise. Normal was anything but. He did NOT care what others thought of him. Imagine if we did that in life?
- Did you have any information about season 3 that the fans might ignore?
TV is about the writing. and with Dark Angel it was all Jim and Chic. Chic is one of the most gifted writers I've ever met . Dark, funny, smart uncompromising and open to everything. a gift.
- Do you happen to still think about Dark Angel nowadays? (On what occasions?)
Of course , it has an astonishingly loyal fan base. I run into people all the time who are so enthusiastic . Like thee most enthusiastic I've ever encountered .Maybe it’s Sci-Fi fi? I’m about to star in a new sci fi series for Netflix’s called “ October Faction.” premiering in January . Its’ based on the eponymous comic series by Steve Niles and Damien Worm. PLEASE WATCH .It’ll be interesting to see what the reponse is. If it s anything Like Dark Angel , we’re in for a ride.
- Do you still have contacts with members of the cast?
See above
- If a sequel was considered, would you be willing to participate?
Whaddya you nuts ! I’m an actor !
- A movie maybe? Do you think it's still possible?
Anything's possible.
- Anything you would like to say to the fans?
I want to thank you. I do this for you guys. You are the unsung hero's. Cool as shit.
Be yourself ... always always be yourself.
